Goodreads is More Than Good

Hey There! Are you on Goodreads? I’m a recent member and now a Goodreads author and it is such a fun, easy-to-use, and interesting site. Take a look if you haven’t already: www.goodreads.com

What’s it all about? I’ll give you the super skinny.

What is Goodreads?

You can sign up for a Goodreads account, for free, to keep a running list of your personal library. Like your to-read and currently-reading lists. And you can even add a bunch of books that you have read in the past and give them a star rating. And even comment on them / review them.

So what’s the point, aside from seeing in a digital spread your history of read, reading, and want-to-read books? You can find friends—and make them, too—on Goodreads and they can check out your library, and you theirs. Maybe they’ll even take up a recommendation of yours based on one of your reviews or ratings, or maybe they’ll follow in suite and pick up the same novel you did and read it at the same time. It’s a fun reading community!

If you like to set goals for the amounts of books you’ll read in a year you can do that, too. Maybe make a fun competition with a friend who’s on Goodreads. Who’s going to reach their goal first?

If you find a book that strikes a chord while perusing members’ bookshelves you can even opt to purchase it. All the necessary links to obtain the book for yourself are right there on the site. It’s amazing.

You can share what you’re reading from Goodreads to Facebook or Twitter. Let the world know what your eyeballs are skimming.

And you can recommend books to friends. And not just Goodreads friends, but Facebook friends and even via the old-fashioned way—email. This community is all about reading and spreading the word about good…well…reads!

If you’re on Goodreads please follow me (Savannah Page). And I’ll follow you! I’m curious…what are you reading? What do you want to read? What have you already read and loved (or loved not so much)? I’m reading a few books right now, but one on the currently-reading list is Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhause-Five. A classic that I’ve <gasp> never read! I read the Stieg Larsson trilogy (that was amazing)! And I plan on reading Emily Giffin’s Where We Belong when that baby comes out.

As promised, a short, but sweet, blog post.

Happy Reading!
